ESTATE AND SUCCESSION PLANNING

“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Benjamin Franklyn 1789

Traditionally it is considered that this may only be a problem effecting the richest in society but in reality it is a growing problem for middle class families, this may store up real problems for loved ones if you don’t address any inheritance tax issues. Careful planning takes time however but the good news is that speaking with an expert can pay dividends and keep your hard earned assets away from the state.

How we can help you?

We understand that protecting your family’s wealth for the benefit of your loved ones will be of vital importance to you.

Estate and inheritance tax planning is about getting the balance right between having access to your money when you need it , saving tax and leaving a legacy for future generations.

Careful planning takes time and we can work with you to help reduce the potential impact of inheritance tax and guide you through the complexities of Estate Planning.

  • Inheritance Tax (IHT) is a tax due on the value of an individual’s estate over a certain sum. Every individual has a nil rate band limit of £325,000 and for a married or widowed couple the limit is £650,000.
  • As well as your individual nil rate band you have a residence nil rate band which was gradually introduced from April 2017, and is now £175,000 per individual (2022/23 tax year.)
  • A married couple passing down a family home in essence could have £1 million available to pass to beneficiaries without a tax charge.
  • If your total estate value is above your nil rate band inheritance tax will be applied to everything you own above it at a rate of 40%.
  • There are a range of trusts and investments available which allow you retain control over your savings, or potentially draw an income if required, whilst working to reduce your overall Inheritance Tax liability.
